Circumnavigating Scarp

April 26th, 2009

Saturday’s forecast was for light northerly winds… ideal for the 10 mile trip round Scarp. Only Christine and DA turned out at 9am and so it was off to sunny Husinis!

The wind was a little more than forecast but a clockwise route would make the last leg the easiest so we headed out west into the swell… some good paddling (and nearly three hours) later, dodging breakers, fresh air strokes and just occasionally remembering to look at the Island we reached the calm waters and stunning beach opposite the island of Cearstaigh.

From here it was all downhill… well apart from the surf landing at the village where the workers could remember the “lady with a nail in her foot” from the St Kilda trip two yeas ago.

A downwind push back to the slipway and then all we had to do was keep DA awake on the way back to Stornoway!
